Deluxe Department Store Deluge: Manhattan Now the Island of Opulence

Want proof that retailers are expecting New York City to soon surpass London and the destination for the global elite? Just look at what Neiman Marcus is doing.

The upscale retail giant is expanding to the Far West Side at Hudson Yards. That's the same neighborhood that not so long ago was considered the "eye sore" of Manhattan, if the city really ever had one over the last 20 years.  Another big luxury name, Saks Fifth Avenue, is expanding to Battery Park City.  Throw in a new Nordstrom, entering Manhattan for the first time ever after a exhaustive 30-year search, and a huge makeover for Berdorf Goodman and you have the potential recipe for the world's largest "A-List" shopping destination.

What it means for destination corporate meeting attendees is easier access to luxury shopping no matter where your group is staying in Manhattan. And while these stores offer one-stop-shopping for designer apparel, shoes, jewelry and occasionally some over-the-top items like private jets, Shackman Associates regularly takes these experiences to even higher levels. Our events have included private champagne pre-hours shows for destination meeting attendees and spouses.
